This is Bourbon Street in New Orleans - One of the "wildest" streets we've been
to. A bit dodgy in feel, but great Jazz and night life.

Cafe du Monde - A great place for breakfast!! Coffee and Beignets (a flat
doughnut covered in icing sugar) beside the Mississippi. Nothing better!

Because New Orleans is below the level of the Mississippi, all the graves are above ground
and these are some of the most beautiful. We would have liked to spent more time
in the cemetary, but it closed 10 minutes after we arrived.

The Creole Queen is one of the riverboats that take gullible tourists (NOT like us!!) for an
"authentic" Jazz cruise along the Mississippi. There was a free ferry
across the river and we got a very nice view of the city from there and saved a few
$$. (Looks like the close proximity of the Scots is rubbing off!!!)

The Cypress Swamp or Bayou was really beautifull. The boat trip we did take (not
too much of a rip off) was really good. The captain had only been off the bayou
for about 10 minutes in his entire life. And since his grandmother on his mother's
side has about 100 grandkids, and his father's grandmother also has about 100 grandkids, so
it is difficult to not get involved with someone who is a close relative!! We saw
an aligator and had a great trip with an excellent running commentary.

Oak Alley (with 28 live Oaks - hence the name) has been used in a few films ("An
Interview with a Vampire" for one) and many commercials. It is one of the
few old homes still in good condition. We really had a nice day there, but all
around is decidely grim - run down towns and people lolling about, and the ever-present oil
and chemical plants make the River Rd a bit of a dissapointment.

We drove for about 3 hours to Avery Island which is the home of Tabasco, along raised
highways over the swamps. We had a great view of some lovely cypress
swamps. The factory tour took about 15 minutes, but it was worth it as we can now
say we've been to Tabasco! We bought a few hot sauces and a great BBQ basting
sauce. The size of bag does not represent the quantity of stuff. I
would have liked to get a T-Shirt, but at US$35 it was a little over the top in price!
